Tunnel administrators will realize an estimated $1.2 million in energy and maintenance savings per year, as well as improved driving conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Opened in 1995, the Ted Williams Tunnel carries drivers along Interstate 90 east and west through Boston Harbor. The lighting upgrade will be phased over two years, with a portion of the tunnel&#8217;s lights being replaced at a time.
