NEW LIGHTING AND INCREASED SAFETY IN THE DESERT INN ROAD TUNNEL IN LAS VEGAS

Built in 1996, the Desert Inn Road Tunnel is a vital part of the Las Vegas Valley’s infrastructure. Designed to reroute traffic under Las Vegas Boulevard and Interstate 15, it helps alleviate congestion and provides an alternative route around The Strip. With more than 70,000 vehicles passing through daily, the tunnel remains one of the area’s busiest thoroughfares.

To improve driver experience and safety, the Clark County Public Works Department has modernized the tunnel’s outdated lighting system.

The original fixtures were replaced with energy-efficient LED luminaires and TLACS-EM was also installed to remotely monitor performance of the lighting system and automatically adjust brightness and color to mimic natural sunlight—reducing “glare effect” at night and preventing the “black hole” effect during daytime at the portals.

Developed by Nyx Hemera Technologies, this advanced system can deliver energy savings of 35% to 55%, enhance safety and security, and reduce the tunnel’s carbon footprint.

This week, Alex, our specialist, will be onsite to supervise the commissioning of the TLACS-EM system and ensure everything runs smoothly!
